Common Pool Problems and Their Solutions

Owning a backyard swimming pool is loads of fun, but it also demands attention and maintenance. Otherwise, you cut down the enjoyment of swimming, as well as put your health and that of your guests at risk. With that in mind, here are some common pool problems and ways to resolve them:

Strong Chlorine Smell

Contrary to popular belief, a strong chlorine smell from your pool doesn’t indicate it’s clean. It actually means that chlorine reacted to other chemical wastes present in the water. To resolve this problem, you will need to use a chlorine-based shock treatment to the pool to reduce the chlorine residual.

Murky Green Water

This is a classic sign of algae growth. As such, you’ll need to pour algaecide into your swimming pool. Afterward, drain the water, clean the pool, and fill the pool with fresh water. Clear out your pool filters too.

Unwanted Foam Parties

Be careful of your use of algaecide though. Adding too much or using a cheap brand can cause excessive foaming on water’s surface. If this happens, you can clear it by adding a defoamer.

Before you purchase the solution you need to resolve these issues, give your pool contractor a call. An experienced professional can recommend an effective brand, as well as give you instructions on how to apply the solution correctly.
