Is a Plunge Pool Right for You?

For many fitness buffs, swimming laps in the pool is an effective form of total body workout. Doing a butterfly stroke or a breast stroke, for instance, requires the strength of the entire body. Even Hollywood superstar Nicole Kidman prefers swimming over any other method to keep fit and sexy.

You can adopt swimming to your exercise routine and follow Ms. Kidman’s example by planning a pool installation at home. Keep in mind, though, that a pool meant for laps must ideally be rectangular in shape with parallel ends, and measure at least 3 metres wide and 12 metres long. As such, you should have a backyard spacious enough for the pool.

Choosing a Fibreglass Pool that’s Suited for You

There are no hard and fast rules for selecting fibreglass pools in Perth. What actually influences your choice of size and shape are your family’s needs. It would be wise to have a sit-down and decide what kind of pool you’ll be investing in before making the investment.

Family size
First, take into consideration the number of people in your family. If three to four people will be using the pool then a 4m by 7m pool would suffice. If you’ve got five to six people ready to jump in, you may want to consider 4.5m by 9m. If you have a large family or plan to entertain several guests, then something in the range of 10 or 12m in length is what you need.

Is it Worth It? Helpful Tips on Buying Inground Pools in Perth

Having a concrete inground swimming pool is custom made and costs more than one made of fibreglass, for it includes tiles and other items to personalise the pool. Furthermore, it requires heavy and regular maintenance in order to prevent algae from building up, unlike in fibreglass swimming pools, where they use less chemicals and are cheaper to maintain. Both kinds of pools, however, require additional costs for fencing and paving. You’ll have to complement your garden to your swimming pool and create a pavement where you and your children can pass through when going to the pool. Nowadays, however, fibreglass pools are not limited to ovals or rectangles. There are many varieties of fibreglass pools in Perth to choose from which can be viewed online such as those from Palm City Pools. They offer a variety of second-hand and refurbished fibreglass pools that look just like new as well as brand new swimming pools also.

Live the Movie Star Life: The Sophistication of Plunge Pools in Perth

Plunge pools are known for their small size, making it perfect for relaxation. This kind of pool is now becoming more popular in hotels and resorts for guests, ranging from businessmen to A-list movie stars, who are simply itching to get away from all the hustle and bustle of the city and just relax in the water. Aside from relaxation, plunge pools are also perfect for newly-wed couples on their honeymoon. This experience, however, doesn’t have to be exclusive to five-star hotels and resorts. Perth plunge pools are the preferred swimming pools at home, since living spaces are now becoming smaller as the days go by, everyone has to make the most out of it. Furthermore, plunge pools are easier to maintain than regular-sized swimming pools and are perfect for your kids and for the whole family.

Simple Ways to Maintain the Pool

A fibreglass pool will always be a good place to spend your downtime away from daily duties. Still, while your Perth swimming pool provider will make every effort to build the pool area according to your preferences, the power to maintain it is still in your hands.
Poolside cleaning
Schedule one day off to maintain the pool. Start by using nets to gather all debris in the water and dispose of them off-pool, as well as the debris in the strainer. Clean out the pool filters at least once a month by washing them off with a garden hose. A scrub brushing is needed to scrape off the algae, dirt, and general scum on the pool lining, especially on the water line. The gel-coat can be fixed using auto polish and a hand buffer, but consult your pool provider about replacing the gel-coat after five to ten years.

The Benefits of Plunge Pools in Perth Homes

The main reason for having a pool is to have a place to regularly go swimming, and swimming has several benefits for children. Renowned Swiss developmental psychologist Jean Piaget, if alive today, would have probably been pleased to find out that an activity as fun as swimming is scientifically proven to bring significant benefits to children’s learning and cognitive development stages.

However, having a pool in Perth homes do not only benefit children. Even adults can help maintain a healthier lifestyle by swimming laps regularly. After all, swimming is considered to be among, if not, the most holistic exercises out there, because it uses and activates muscles in the entire body. Of course, there is also the perk of being able to keep it cool during the hot, summer days – even nights.

Build Your Plunge Pool with the Right Materials

If you’re thinking of building a pool in your Perth home, you should consider what materials to use. A swimming pool can be made of concrete, vinyl, granite, or fibreglass. These materials are most commonly used for pools due to their unique perks, including durability, elegance, and low maintenance.

Fibreglass plunge pools in Perth come in one or several pieces, and can be installed within one to three days. That’s quite faster than concrete pool installation, which may last for several weeks or even months. Shorter installation time means less expensive labour needs. Also, fibreglass normally has a smooth finish, which contributes to its durability by preventing algae build-up.

However, since these are open to the public, individuals looking for some swimming exercise can expect the pools to get pretty crowded. Thus, they can consider having their own fibreglass swimming pools in Perth. Generally speaking, swimming is a good way to stay fit and healthy because doing so allows individuals to move their whole body against the water’s force. Fibreglass Pools in Perth Homes Offer Various Advantages to Owners

One of the first hurdles you’ll encounter is choosing the type of pool to install. While concrete and vinyl pools are viable options, more and more people are getting fibreglass pools from Perth installers like Palm City Pools. Owner John Raykos explains why these pools are so popular with customers: Easy to Install (or Remove) Fibreglass pools are prefabricated, meaning the “shell” arrives at your home premade and ready to be installed in the ground. You could be swimming laps in your very own pool in a week or less, which is far quicker than the three-week installation time required for concrete or vinyl pools. In the same vein, removing fiberglass pools from Perth homes is also markedly easier, according to Raykos, whose company also removes and refurbishes pre-owned pools.

Fibreglass pools: Dig and drop

Back in the day, homeowners had bloody debates on whether concrete or fibreglass is better to use for a swimming pool. That debate is pretty much over in the 21st century with the advent of mouldable fibreglass and computer design technology. When it comes to installation and pricing, fibreglass comes in first.

Concrete barrier
What stops many homeowners from investing in concrete pools is the building time. While they cost relatively lower, their construction takes twice as long. However, the real challenge is maintaining them. Algae grows on concrete surfaces and is difficult to clean. Fibreglass pools require virtually no maintenance except for bottom sweeping, just like a bathtub.

Swimming Pools in Perth Homes Can Help Seniors Win Against Obesity

The study adds that being overweight or obese puts people at greater risk of developing diabetes, hypertension, osteoarthritis and respiratory ailments, among other things. Of course, exercise can help seniors lose the excess weight, but at their age, strenuous activities like lifting weights or even prolonged running may cause injuries. Fortunately, adding a swimming pool to Perth homes provides older citizens a way to exercise without overexerting themselves. When people swim, their body is supported by the water, which reduces the pressure on their joints. This doesn’t mean, however, that water exercises are not as effective as their dry-land counterparts. Water is approximately 12 times denser than air, so any activity done in a pool becomes an effective means of strength training.

The art of making a swimming pool a work of art

If you had money to spend on a pool, how would you do it? A U.S. homeowner hired a pool builder to combine his affinity for violins with his love for Koi. What resulted was a pool design like no other. You can perhaps draw inspiration from this scenario.

The Stradivarius pool
The pool is shaped like a Stradivarius violin, with two fish-filled Koi ponds (shaped like a violin bow) intersecting the violin’s neck. The violin’s chin rest is a 12-person overflow spa. Not content with the design, the owner went ahead and added more “extras.”

Why Choose Fibreglass For Your Pool in Perth?

There are different types of swimming pools in the market. There are concrete ones, which use concrete as their base, and there are fibreglass ones that use a moulded fibreglass vessel. If you’re on the fence between the two types, you might want to consider fibreglass, instead. Here are some reasons why:

  • Easy installation – concrete swimming pools require time to get built. The normal wait time is up to several months, as the concrete foundation need time to dry. With a fibreglass pool, all you’ll need is a hole dug deep enough to install the fibreglass. The whole project can be completed in a matter of weeks.
  • Easy maintenance – fibreglass has a smooth surface that makes it difficult for mould and algae to cling to and grow on. That makes one less worry for you when it comes to maintenance. The smooth surface also makes it is easier to clean. Expect to spend a short thirty minutes a week dealing with any accumulated dirt on the pool. Australians will also appreciate that fibreglass pools can handle salt water better than concrete ones, useful with the many seaside pools in the continent, especially in cities like Perth.
  • Easy on the wallet – the initial investment may be roughly equal with concrete pools of similar size, but fibreglass pools are more affordable to maintain than concrete ones. Additionally, they last longer in most conditions, reducing the need for maintenance repairs.

Tips in Designing a Plunge Pool

Plunge pools serve a simple purpose: to provide a more relaxing vibe than a conventional-sized pool. If you’re looking to have one installed, make sure you take the time to know a few more essential things, such as the following:
Dimension and pricing – Always keep in mind to go for practical dimensions – at least 5 metres in length and 3 metres in width. Anything smaller than that will be uncomfortably small. Consider the price tag, and choose your contractor well.
Main usage – Consider how you’ll be using your pool for the entire year. One of the advantages of having a smaller, more intimately sized plunge pool is that it’s easier to heat the water to the desired comfortable temperature, turning your pool into an instant home-based spa. You can also add jets for massaging purposes, or for those who like to exercise.
Additional options – Aside from the entry and exit steps, you might want to include some large underwater seats or ledges to lay on and relax, which are great when combined with the steps.
Location – Make sure that the pool is neither too far or too near your home. If it’s too far, you risk getting yourself or your friends and family bringing a lot of dirt into the pool; if it’s too near, you’ll need to keep a watchful eye on your children or pets as the pool could pose a danger to them.

Must-Know Care Tips for your Fibreglass Pools

Fiberglass pools are inexpensive alternatives to the conventional pool system. However, as in any fixture in your home, you will have to spend time and effort cleaning it and keeping it well-maintained, if you want your investment to last you a long time. Here are some tips to keep in mind:
Don’t Drain
While draining is practically an integral part of conventional pool maintenance, this will only serve to damage your fibreglass swimming pool. The fact is, unless there’s been a flood that might have sent scores of bacteria into the water, or if the pool itself has been neglected for some time, there’s hardly any need for draining.
Cleaning Debris
For heavy debris floating on your pool’s surface, you should vacuum these out by attaching one to your telescopic pole and attach a hose to the vacuum head right before you plunge it into the water. While automatic vacuums should be able to accomplish this job with little effort, you can do as much with a manual vacuum.
Filter Check and Water Testing
There are many cleaning practices which are pretty much the same for both fibreglass and traditional concrete pools. For one, you should constantly monitor the state of the filter and have it replaced when it gets too filthy to work efficiently. Checking your water’s chemical balance is also essential regardless of the type of pool you’re using.

The Perks of Pool Ownership

For years, your kids have been bugging you to build a pool in your backyard, and for years, you’ve held off, citing a litany of reasons from high expense to safety concerns. You should know that plenty of advancements in pool technology have pretty much addressed these issues. Isn’t it about time you give in and give your kids the pool they want that is sure to provide hours of fun and quality time for the whole family?

With the right pool builder, you can have a pool that fits your budget, your backyard, and recreational needs. Here are two of the best benefits of having your own pool.

An instant party place

With a backyard swimming pool, you have a place to celebrate with family and friends for those special occasions—without the major expenses on food and venue, or the strain of preparation. People enjoy swimming and gathering together when the weather is perfect; a normal day can instantly turn into a fun-filled day when people spend time relaxing around a pool.

Health benefits

Pools aren’t just for fun and frolicking. Swimming is a low-impact form of aerobic exercise and you can take up swimming as your ultimate fitness routine. Take water aerobics. Swim a few laps every day. Walk or jog while in the water as a way to exercise your muscles or joints without putting much strain on them. If someone in your family has chronic pain, a regular swim, especially in a warmed-up pool, can be one of the best ways to manage your loved one’s health.

The Benefits of Installing a Pool in Your Home

People are exercising more regularly to stay in great shape. For some who aren’t too crazy about gym workouts, swimming is about the best activity that engages the entire body—toning muscles and building muscle strength, among others. It’s one of the best reasons why homeowners decide to install pools in their homes.

Besides exercise, having a pool just right outside your door can benefit you in other ways: Here are a few of them:

  • A perfect place to socialize. Pools can become a great place to laze around and keep in touch with people you want to be with or reconnect with.
  • For the elderly, certain exercises at the pool can help them, particularly with arthritic and heart ailments. Simple, supervised activities in the water can help them recover much faster.
  • Convenience. No more swimming at the gym or local sports centre. You have access to a pool 24/7 where you can swim, whenever you want to.
  • A pool is a great stress reliever. Like a hot shower, a dip in the pool, especially when temperature-controlled, can provide a relaxing experience for anyone.

The American Heart Association reports that swimming, even for just 20-30 minutes per day, can cut your risk for coronary heart disease; the Annals of Internal Medicine also supports that regular aerobic exercise eases blood pressure, reducing one’s hazard for stroke.

What is a Plunge Pool?

Want to get a pool, but not really keen on swimming around? Then a plunge pool is the perfect fit for you. A plunge pool is a small, shallow pool built specifically for the purpose of lounging or just chilling out by the water. Its relatively small size makes it a preferred choice among many homeowners because of lower costs, easier maintenance, and reduced water requirements. You cannot practically swim in it, but rather simply wade and cool off.
The smaller size of a plunge pool make it highly customisable. Homeowners can literally have it their way – from a geometric-inspired or minimalist designed pool to a relaxing green-themed spa pool. Some of the more popular optional features for these pools include:
Waterfalls – The water in the pool can be recirculated using a waterfall, which gives the effect of a natural, refreshing waterfall in your own backyard.
Massage therapy – Using jets, plunge pools can also double as water massage centres. As you float, you have the luxury of a soothing, targeted massage; allowing for maximum relaxation.
Temperature control – Is it sweltering and you’d like a nice, cool dip? You can cool down your water at will whenever you want, as the small water volume in a plunge pool can easily be heated or cooled.
A plunge pool’s wide array of configurations enable owners to create the pool of their dreams from standard components. Add up a little creative touch and voila! A relaxation haven at an affordable price is within anyone’s reach.

Fiberglass Pools: What you Need to Know

So you want to have a swimming pool set up. Do you know what type you want? There are many, varying mostly on what materials are used on them. Fiberglass for one, is a relatively new technology introduced for pools, yet it is quickly becoming one of the most popular. Here are some reasons why:
  • Efficiency is the name of the game when it comes to fiberglass. It’s easy to install, low-maintenance and it has much lower long-term costs compared to other types.
  • They are prefabricated, which means that they were produced in a factory which ascertains that your pool is of sound quality and performance by the time it arrives in your backyard for installation.
  • Not only are they pre-made, but they arrive in one piece. No assembly required, no seams and joints – these make for better water retention and rust prevention.
  • Unlike concrete, fiberglass isn’t prone to algae development, thus making the pools quite easy to clean.
  • Fiberglass, having high flexibility, is also excellent in absorbing natural forces like constant ground vibrations or earthquakes. While this can be disastrous for other forms of inground pools, your fiberglass swimming pool can easily weather through the ground shifts.
  • Being more resistant to temperature changes, a fiberglass pool can keep water warmer or cooler for longer.
So, do you think a fiberglass pool is suited to your tastes and preferences? Consult your contractor or pool professional for more information.

Quick Tips on Maintaining Pool Chemistry

Having a pool installed and filling it up with water is just page one of the responsible pool owner’s book of responsibilities. You want to make sure that your backyard swimming pool remains safe enough for your family members to take a dive in, so make sure that the chemicals you use to treat it with is balanced and maintained.
Go to your local pool supply store to buy a testing kit. Be sure that you have strips for pH, chlorine, alkalinity, and cyanuric acid. Follow your kit’s instructions on how to take test samples of the water and determine its values (pool kits follow a colour scheme that should tell you about the state of the water’s chemicals).
Chlorine Tablets
Add about two or three chlorine tablets in your pool’s chlorinator (or through a floater basket), and you should be all set for about a week before adding more. Take care not to put the tablets in the skimmer basket though, since this might lead to all the water passing through your pool plumbing to contain high levels of chlorine.
pH and Alkalinity
Adding some baking soda to the skimmer just might work to improve the pool’s alkalinity and pH. Of course, there also are many commercial products you can use for this. Look to achieve a pH reading of at least 7.4 or 7.6.
